Open Source Code & Tools

Here you’ll find a list of all the code that we’ve produced in-house and made open to give back to the community. All code is provided as-is.

If you have any suggestions or recommendations, get in touch and we’ll see about adding them to the codebase of the tool in question.

Competitor Research Tool

Inspired by the Google Docs tool created by Distilled and presented at SMX Advanced London 2011, we proudly present the first tool that we’re releasing to the community: The Strategy Competitor Research Tool.

To make this work, upload it to a server (or you can run it on localhost), enter a bunch of keywords, wait a while, and you’ll get back a list of the sites that rank for those terms, ordered by a weighting system. You can also see how many times each site ranks, and what positions they attained.

There’s proxy support in here too, for doing research for foreign places, as long as you’ve got a proxy in the country. View source for details of how to turn it on.

Note that this tool has no stylesheets or attempt to make it pretty. It’s purely a proof of concept, although please feel free to style it however you want to fit in with your own branding.

As of version 1.3, the tool comes with the DAWS CSS files, but would still need alteration to fit with your own branding. It does look OK now though.

Digital Application Wireframing Stylesheets (DAWS)

This is a collection of stylesheets for wireframing, and forming the basis of live development sites. There’s a default reset, grid layouts, baseline-aligned typography with various font stacks, basic form and table styling and support for various display sizes, from 480px mobile devices up to 2560px widescreen displays.

The focus is on textual readability and usability with all elements, without losing aesthetic quality.
